The Japanese sneak attack on Pearl Harbor
President Roosevelt said: "A date that will live infamy..."
May we use this day to pay homage, and give tribute to the many veterans of WWII as well as a memorial to those who were wounded and died due to the sneak attack on Pearl Harbor by the Japanese navy of imperial Japan. Many thousands of American soldiers and sailors died in the Japanese sneak attack on our navy and air bases of Hawaii. In addition to the American navy docks and facilities the US army air corps airfields were also attacked on this date.
By the way, I offer one couple in the military a free wedding in my 2nd annual 2007 military wedding contest. This is my way to honor veterans.
Aerial Bombs were dropped on our docked ships as our sailors slept by dive-bombers and low level Kate bombers. Torpedoes were also used against the American navy military battleships and facilities. The US navy aircraft carriers were part of a battle group that was out to sea for maneuvers. The aircraft carriers would later avenge the USA against the Japanese sneak attack at the battle of Midway Island. Four of the six Japanese carriers used against Pearl Harbor would be sunk at the battle of Midway Island.
Many Americans were killed and suffered wounds during the war from 1941 until 1945 due to an ensuing war with the Imperial Japanese military. Each and every year there are fewer and fewer veterans of World War two that fought for victory over Japan. My very own father is a combat veteran in the invasion of southern France and his unit moved into Germany and freed some of the victims of the slave camps from German occupation.
We should give reverence and remember the sacrifices that veterans who fought for our country and were in harms way. I am also a US Army veteran and I never did anything heroic. I was fortunate enough that I was never was in harms way or had a shot fired in anger, so I count my many blessings.
On February 6, 1904 the Japanese navy was able to perform a sneak attack using their naval fleet against the Russian navy of the Czar. This was the start of the Russian - Japanese war. The Japanese seem to have used the very same sneaky methods of military operations. In the US we did not seem to learn our lessons from history about sneak attacks by hostile military forces. I know that many want to get along with everyone and sometimes we can overlook differences. There are times when a war is the only option other than enslavement or annihilation. There have been wars over and over through out history and sometimes a war is something that just cannot be avoided.
Let us in the USA and the rest of the world pick our battles wisely and may we not let corporate interests dictate the foreign policy of the good old USA for profit and gain. Thank the veterans for the many freedoms that we do enjoy. Their very blood and toil and many sacrifices gained these freedoms we in the USA enjoy. Many a wedding was postponed, many became widows and orphans over the years due to the above attack sneak attack by imperial Japan. I thank all of the veterans for all that you have done for the USA and myself. I truly wish we would thank and honor the vets by taking care of them better at the VA hospitals.
